MARIA MARILYN JOSEPH

Product Designer

I am a designer with an aim to create impactful interventions, that facilitate personal engagement towards the climate crisis- through objects, products and services. I gain inspiration from technology, biomaterials and sustainable indigenous practices.

I have a keen interest in understanding the human relationship with sustainable materials and practices, and I often imagine its application in future narratives.  Responding to the phenomenon of human disassociation from nature, I believe the objects, their materials, and the services we choose to surround ourselves with allow multiple points of intervention that help engage the public. My process includes speculative design scenarios that are eventually grounded by ethnographic research and material investigation. My choice in forms and materials merge with my fascination with science and technology in production, I believe multidisciplinary collaborations between science and design can deliver empathetic applications of technology.

Moving forward, I would like to develop the skills required to create solutions that align with these values. Building solutions in collaboration with like-minded people to address everyday environmental concerns.
