Expanded Painting Practitioner
As an expanded painter, I challenge the traditional concept of painting as a 'lens-based subjective imagery', and redefine painting as a model of thought. My painting shows organic phenomena and functions as a means of therapy. My research explores the concept of dwelling, a holistic means to nest body and mind. I experiment with restoring the sense of decay of a site to a painting that allows my work to unfold.
My work empathizes with those who suffered from childhood trauma, lost hopes and inner strength and are striving to regain their authentic self and find life's purpose. Weaving and painting are my media. Weaving is a portal to my subconscious and a form of intuitive making, while painting is a window of my mind and an assemblage system. My consciousness unifies both through threads, converting multisensory experiences into holistic objects that further my reflection on research and the making.
